START DANCING
Thousands of people started Lindy Hop convinced they “can't dance.” Just come – the rest is our job.
No partner needed
Sign up on your own – in class everyone rotates partners, so you'll dance with everyone. We balance groups so leaders and followers are even.
No experience needed
Beginner groups start from zero. No prep, no “two left feet” – everyone has rhythm.
No special outfit needed
Comfortable clothes and clean shoes that move easily – that's it. You'll learn the rest when you arrive.

Warm-up and first steps
75 minutes with two teachers: rhythm, the basic step and your first figures. We rotate partners – you'll dance with everyone.

After class we often dance freely – the best way to see where all this leads.

Common questions
Do I need a partner?
Not necessarily. Sign up without a partner – we balance groups and rotate partners, so you'll dance with everyone. Solo Jazz classes need no partner at all.
Which dance role should I choose?
Swing dances (Lindy Hop, Collegiate Shag, Balboa) are partner dances in which one person “leads” and the other “follows”. It makes no difference who picks which role – both men and women can lead and follow equally. When you start classes you choose one role that you'll mainly dance, though there will also be classes where we switch roles. If the urge to dance matters more to you than the role, register without a partner for the other or for both roles.
Can I just try it out?
Yes, every Thursday before the What a Jazz socials. But otherwise – there are no free first classes at the What a Jazz studio. On Thursday evenings in summer we dance at “Kitas krantas” by Mindaugas Bridge, and during the class season – at Lukiškės Prison 2.0 or the What a Jazz studio. The socials are open and free. We also often run free taster classes during our bigger events* (follow our events and news).
What should I wear?
Clean shoes and comfortable clothes that don't restrict you are what matter – but 1) the dance floor isn't a gym (especially at parties), 2) some classes are more physically intense than others, and 3) “comfortable” should also be comfortable for the people around you and whom you'll dance with. It's a good idea to bring a spare shirt to change into after class, especially at parties.
